In June 2010 we were approached by Tino Mercado and Craig McCallum, who after years of living in Sydney (just down the road on Paddington street), had slowly began to fall out of love with the city and deeper in love with the Blue Mountains, where they owned a property in Leura.

For a long time, they had both shared a dream, that of creating a French provincial boutique hotel in the Blue Mountains, and it might seem like fate that upon taking the decision to ‘look around’ they would fall on Falls house, the perfect foundation upon which to build their dream retreat.

It is not often that a client gives us free reign, and we will forever be thankful to Tino and Craig for trusting us with their dream. Our brief was to create not only a beautiful, unique and restful French interior but a beautiful, unique and restful experience.

Villa Athena is comprised of the Studio Suite (originally John Olson’s studio) and two Stable suites.

The Studio suite could be described as the more extravagant suite of the property, with it’s signature Louis XVI hand carved and painted four poster king bed, it is the epitome of French luxury.

Beautiful toile swags decorate the windows that look out onto the Athena garden depicting established rose covered arches. The Studio suite’s décor is richly warm but not overwhelmingly so, for it is still provincial, offering a relaxed and comfortable setting where one can recuperate and rejuvenate.
